Why Furniture Needs Special Care

Boxes are easy. Furniture is where moves go wrong. A sectional sticks in a stairwell. A table leg snaps on a door frame. A dresser tips off a dolly and gouges the floor. These mistakes cost real money, and some cannot be undone.

Big furniture is heavy, awkward and often fragile in surprising places. Veneer chips. Glass cracks. Joints loosen when a piece gets lifted by the wrong edge. Upholstery tears on a rough truck wall.

Our furniture movers handle these pieces every day. We measure first. We take apart what will not fit. We wrap every surface and carry with straps and dollies. Then we rebuild and place each piece in your new home.

Many customers call us for just one or two items. A new sofa from a store. A dresser from a family member. A piano for a new home. We take single-item and small furniture jobs as well as full moves.

This guide covers the benefits, the pieces we move, our wrapping method, costs and prep. It also explains our promise and when to book.

Our crew handles piano and safe moving, furniture disassembly and assembly, and one-item moves for single pieces across town.

Furniture We Move

Sofas And Sectionals

We separate sectional pieces, remove legs and wrap fabric in plastic and pads. Recliners get locked in place before they move.

Beds And Bedroom Sets

We take apart bed frames and headboards. Mattresses go into protective bags. Dressers travel empty, with drawers wrapped shut.

Dining Tables And China Cabinets

Table legs come off. Leaves get padded separately. Glass shelves are removed and packed. Cabinet doors are taped closed with soft wrap.

Antiques And Heirlooms

Old joints and finishes need gentle handling. We use extra padding and avoid tape on finished wood. Tell us about valuable pieces before moving day.

Pianos And Very Heavy Items

Upright pianos, gun safes and large armoires need extra crew and special dollies. Tell us the size and weight when you request your estimate, so we plan the right team.

Office And Gym Furniture

Desks, filing cabinets, treadmills and home gym machines move with the same care. Some gym machines need partial disassembly before transport.

Single-Item And Store Pickups

Bought a piece from a store or a marketplace seller? We pick it up and deliver it to your home anywhere in our service area.

03

How We Wrap And Carry Furniture

  1. Inspect. We note existing scratches and loose joints with you before we touch anything.
  2. Measure. We check doors, halls and stairs against each large piece.
  3. Disassemble. Legs, feet, mirrors and shelves come off. Hardware goes into labeled bags.
  4. Wrap. Thick moving pads cover wood. Shrink wrap holds pads in place and seals fabric.
  5. Carry. Two-person lifts, shoulder straps and dollies move each piece with control.
  6. Secure. In the truck, pieces stand upright against walls and get strapped.
  7. Rebuild. At your new home, we reassemble and place each piece where you want it.

The lead mover checks every piece before it leaves the room. Is the wrap tight? Are the drawers taped? Is the hardware bagged? These small checks prevent most furniture damage before it can happen.

Shrink wrap and pads are free on every job. We never charge extra for basic protection.

When Furniture Will Not Fit

Older Atlanta homes have narrow doors. Townhomes have tight stair turns. Condos have small elevators. Here is how we get big pieces through.

  • Remove doors: Taking a door off its hinges adds two inches of clearance.
  • Remove legs and feet: This often changes the angle a sofa needs.
  • Tilt and pivot: Most sofas pass a door on end, not flat.
  • Take apart: Many sectionals, beds and desks are built to come apart.
  • Use a different route: Patio doors and garage entries are often wider.

Measure your largest pieces and your new doors before the move. Send us photos of tight spots. We plan the route before the truck arrives.

05

What Furniture Moving Costs

Local furniture moves use hourly pricing. These factors shape your total.

  • Number of pieces: One sofa takes less time than a full house.
  • Weight and size: Pianos and safes need extra crew.
  • Disassembly: Complex beds and sectionals add time.
  • Stairs and access: Each flight and long walk adds minutes.
  • Distance: Drive time between homes counts toward hours.

Taking apart and rebuilding standard beds, tables and desks comes at no extra charge. The no-cost quote names the hourly figure and likely duration. See our moving cost guide for typical ranges.

Got a single heavy piece and a flexible date? Mention it. Small furniture jobs often slot between larger moves. That keeps your bill lean and your wait short.

06

Protect Furniture Before Moving Day

  • Empty every drawer, shelf and cabinet.
  • Remove glass tops, mirrors and shelves if you can do it safely.
  • Photograph valuable pieces from several angles.
  • Tape small hardware bags to the piece they belong to.
  • Clean and dry wood surfaces so dust does not scratch under pads.
  • Tell us about any loose joints or old repairs.

For glass, mirrors and art, our fragile item packing guide walks through each step.

07

Furniture Moving Mistakes To Avoid

Lifting By The Wrong Part

Lifting a sofa by its arms or a table by its top stresses weak joints. Lift from the frame, low and balanced.

Dragging Across Floors

Dragging scratches hardwood and tears carpet. Always lift or use a dolly.

Moving Full Dressers

Full drawers add weight and slide open mid-carry. Empty them first.

Taping Directly On Finishes

Tape can pull off varnish and paint. Wrap with pads first, then shrink wrap.

Skipping The Measurements

A piece that does not fit stalls the whole move. Measure early, and tell us.

Who Hires Furniture Movers

Homeowners rearranging rooms who need heavy pieces moved upstairs or downstairs. Buyers of new or used furniture who need a pickup and delivery. Families sharing heirlooms across town. Home stagers and sellers who need rooms cleared for listing photos. Seniors downsizing who need pieces split between a new home, family and storage.

Moving a whole house? Our single-family home movers handle full homes. Need a temporary spot for big pieces? Ask about storage between homes.

09

How We Handle Different Materials

Each material reacts differently to bumps, heat and pressure. Our wrapping changes with it.

Solid Wood

Solid wood is strong but scratches easily. We cover every face with thick pads and keep tape off the finish. Corners get extra layers, because corners take the hits.

Veneer And Laminate

Veneer chips at the edges. Laminate pieces often have weak joints. We lift these from the base and avoid any twisting. Flat-pack pieces travel taken apart when they allow it.

Leather And Fabric

Leather scuffs and fabric picks up dirt. We seal both in plastic before padding. In Georgia humidity, we remove plastic soon after delivery so moisture does not get trapped.

Glass And Marble

Glass tops and marble slabs travel on edge, never flat. Flat glass can crack under its own weight on a bump. We pack each panel in a padded crate or a mirror carton.

Metal And Outdoor Furniture

Patio sets and metal frames can scratch other pieces. We wrap them separately and load them away from finished wood.

10

Storing Furniture The Right Way

Sometimes furniture cannot go straight to the new home. A closing slips. A renovation runs long. Storage bridges the gap, but only if pieces are prepared well.

  • Choose climate-controlled storage for wood, leather and pianos in Georgia summers.
  • Never wrap stored furniture tightly in plastic. It traps moisture.
  • Store sofas and mattresses upright to save space and avoid crushing.
  • Keep heavy items on the floor, never stacked on top of upholstery.

Our inventoried storage plan handles the pickup, storage and delivery in one plan. Read when you need storage to decide if it fits your move.

11

Single-Item And Small Furniture Moves

Not every job is a full house. Many calls are for one heavy piece. We handle those jobs with the same crew, truck and gear as a full move.

Common single-item jobs include a new sofa from a store. Others involve a dresser from a relative or a treadmill for an upstairs room. We also move pieces between storage units and homes.

For small jobs, send us the address of both stops and a photo of each piece. Include the floor number and any stairs. We give you a clear price before we book.

Buying used furniture online? Check the size against your door before you pay. Ask the seller if the piece comes apart. These two questions save many wasted trips.

Small jobs often fit around larger moves on our schedule. Flexible dates help us offer you a sooner slot.
