Local Knowledge Makes Moves Easier
Every part of metro Atlanta moves differently. Midtown towers need elevator reservations. Marietta's historic homes have narrow stairs. Alpharetta's gated communities need gate lists. Buford's lake homes sit on steep drives. Suwanee's cul-de-sacs need turning room for a truck.
A mover who knows these details saves you time and money. A mover who does not learns on your clock. That is why local knowledge matters so much in a city as spread out as Atlanta.
Our home base sits in Lawrenceville, in the middle of Gwinnett County. From there, we reach most of metro Atlanta quickly. Since 2017, we have moved families across Gwinnett, Cobb, Fulton, DeKalb, Forsyth and Hall counties.
This guide covers what you gain from a local mover and the cities we serve most. It also covers nearby counties and how distance affects your price. Finally, it shows how to check coverage for your address.

Moving In Atlanta
Atlanta mixes high-rise condos, historic bungalows, lofts and townhomes. Towers in Midtown and Buckhead often require a reserved freight elevator and a certificate of insurance. Older homes in Grant Park and Inman Park have narrow doors and steep porches.
Traffic shapes every Atlanta move. We start early and avoid the Downtown Connector at rush hour when we can. Our Lawrenceville base sits about 32 miles from the city center.
Popular Atlanta moves include Midtown and Buckhead towers, BeltLine lofts in Old Fourth Ward and bungalows in Virginia-Highland. Each one needs a different truck size and crew plan. We confirm building rules and parking before we set your crew.

Moving In Marietta And Cobb County
Marietta blends historic homes around the Square with large family homes in East and West Cobb. Many homes have basements and big garages, which add volume to a move. Townhome communities often have HOA rules about trucks and move hours.
I-75 and US-41 are the main routes. We time trips around rush hour. Marietta sits about 38 miles from our base.
Cobb families often move within the county as their needs change. Starter homes lead to family homes. Family homes lead to smaller homes after the kids leave. We see every stage, and we plan each move around it.

Moving In Alpharetta And North Fulton
Alpharetta has large family homes in Windward and Crabapple, condos near Avalon and new townhomes near downtown. Gated communities are common. Big homes often need bigger crews or a separate packing day.
GA-400 traffic is the main timing factor. We plan drives for mid-day when possible.
Many Alpharetta moves are job relocations tied to the corporate offices along GA-400. These moves often come with fixed start dates. We plan the schedule backward from that date.

Moving In Buford And The Lake Lanier Area
Buford spans Gwinnett and Hall counties. Lake homes near Lanier sit on steep, wooded lots. New subdivisions keep growing near the Mall of Georgia and Hamilton Mill. The City of Buford runs its own electric, gas and water service.
Our base is about 13 miles away, so scheduling stays easy. Lake traffic peaks on summer weekends.
Send us photos of the drive before a lake move. That way, we pick the right truck and plan the safest carry path from the start.

Moving In Suwanee And Gwinnett
Suwanee has walkable townhomes near Town Center, family homes on cul-de-sacs and new builds along Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Town Center events can fill streets on weekends, so we check the calendar first.
Suwanee sits about 10 miles from our base. That makes it one of our fastest areas to serve.
Because Suwanee is so close, our crew can often fit same-week moves in the off-season. Summer is still busy, so book early for June and July.

Nearby Counties We Serve
Our five core cities are just the start. We often move families across these counties too.
Gwinnett County
Our home county. We move families in Lawrenceville, Duluth, Snellville, Lilburn, Dacula, Sugar Hill and Norcross. The Gwinnett County website lists county services and school details.
Cobb County
Beyond Marietta, we serve Kennesaw, Smyrna, Acworth and Powder Springs.
Fulton County
We cover Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Roswell, Johns Creek, Milton and Alpharetta.
DeKalb County
We move families in Decatur, Tucker, Dunwoody, Brookhaven and Stone Mountain.
Forsyth And Hall Counties
We serve Cumming, Flowery Branch, Gainesville and lake-area communities.
Each of these counties has its own feel. Gwinnett is diverse and fast-growing, with many new subdivisions. Cobb mixes older neighborhoods with large suburban homes. Fulton stretches from intown Atlanta to the horse country of Milton. DeKalb holds historic Decatur and busy Perimeter Center. Forsyth and Hall bring lake living and newer communities.
Wherever you are, we bring the same crew, the same gear and the same clear pricing.
Do not see your city? Ask anyway. We often travel further for the right move.
Moving Between Cities In Metro Atlanta
Many of our moves start in one city and end in another. The most common routes include Atlanta to the northern suburbs, Cobb to Gwinnett and North Fulton to Forsyth.
- Drive time between cities counts toward hourly local moves.
- Crossing county lines can change your school district, trash service and utilities.
- Moves that cross I-285 or GA-400 go best outside rush hour.
- Very long in-state moves may use long distance pricing instead.

How Location Affects Your Moving Price
Your price depends on your exact addresses, not a city price list. These location factors matter most.
- Distance between homes: Longer drives add time on local moves.
- Traffic: Routes through busy interchanges take longer at rush hour.
- Access: Towers, steep drives, cul-de-sacs and gated entries change carry times.
- Distance from our base: We plan crew arrival around your area.
We quote your exact addresses in a written estimate. Our Georgia moving cost guide shows typical ranges.
How To Check If We Cover Your Address
- Send your ZIP codes through our reserve form.
- Or call (470) 899-0189 and tell us both addresses.

Choosing Where To Live In Metro Atlanta
Many of our customers are new to Georgia. They often ask us which area fits them best. We are movers, not real estate agents, but we see a lot of neighborhoods. Here is what we notice.
If You Want City Life
Intown Atlanta offers walkable neighborhoods, the BeltLine, restaurants and transit. Homes are smaller, and towers are common. Expect building rules and tighter parking on moving day.
If You Want Space And Schools
North Fulton, East Cobb and Gwinnett suburbs offer larger homes, yards and well-known school districts. Expect longer commutes into the city.
If You Want The Lake
Buford and the Lake Lanier area offer lake access and newer homes. Expect weekend lake traffic and steeper lots.
If You Want A Small-Town Feel
Historic downtowns like Marietta Square, Old Town Suwanee and downtown Buford offer events, local shops and character homes.
Visit at rush hour before you choose. A commute that looks short on a map can feel long at 5 PM. Our moving to Atlanta guide has more tips for newcomers.
What Changes When You Cross A County Line
Metro Atlanta is made up of many counties and cities. A move of just a few miles can change a lot of your daily services.
- Schools: Each county runs its own school system. Some cities, like Marietta and Buford, run their own too.
- Utilities: Power, water and gas providers change by city and county.
- Trash pickup: Some areas use city service. Others use county-assigned or private haulers.
- Taxes: Property and sales taxes differ by county and city.
- Vehicle registration: You register your car in your new county of residence.
Your new county also handles voter registration and homestead exemptions for homeowners. Look up the county website soon after you move.
Check each of these for your new address before moving day. It saves surprises after you arrive.
Home Types We Move Across The Region
Each area has its own mix of homes. Our crews plan for each type.
- High-rise condos: elevator reservations, insurance forms and dock times
- Garden apartments: stairs, shared parking and leasing office rules
- Townhomes: narrow stairs, small driveways and HOA rules
- Historic homes: narrow doors, old floors and fragile trim
- Family homes: basements, garages and bonus rooms
- Lake homes: steep drives, walkouts and outdoor furniture
- New builds: fresh floors, unfinished streets and builder schedules
Many moves cross two types, like a condo to a family home. We plan both ends.
Tell us your home type when you request an estimate. We size the crew and plan the gear to match.
Seasonal Moving Patterns By Area
Each area has its own busy season. Knowing it helps you pick a better date.
- Intown Atlanta: busiest at month-end and in August, when students arrive.
- Suburban family areas: busiest in June and July, between school years.
- Lake areas: busiest in spring and summer, with heavy weekend traffic.
- New-build areas: busy all year, with closings clustered at month-end.
Fall and winter are the quietest seasons across the whole region. If your dates are flexible, they offer the best choice of moving days.

Questions To Ask Any Mover About Your Area
Whoever you hire, ask these questions before you book. The answers show how well a mover knows your area.
- Have you moved people in my neighborhood or building before?
- What truck size will fit my street and driveway?
- How will traffic affect my move on the date I picked?
- Do you handle elevator reservations and insurance forms?
- How far is your base from my home, and when will you arrive?
- Is your crew in-house, or do you hire day labor?
Good movers answer these questions clearly. Vague answers are a warning sign. Ask us any of them, and we will give you a straight answer.

Popular Areas Book Up First
Some areas get very busy at certain times of year.
- Intown Atlanta fills at month-end, when leases turn over.
- Suburban family areas fill in June and July, between school years.
- Lake-area moves near Buford get busy on summer weekends.
Moving between two busy areas doubles the challenge. Picture a month-end move from a Midtown tower to a Suwanee new build. It needs both an elevator slot and a closing time. Book early, and we line up both ends for you.
Book two to four weeks ahead, and four to six in summer. A $75 deposit holds your date, and $70 is credited to your final invoice.
