Bridge The Gap Between Homes

When your move-out and move-in dates do not match, storage fills the gap. Here is how moving and storage works in Atlanta and around Georgia.

When Dates Do Not Line Up

Real life rarely follows a neat moving calendar. Your buyer wants to close on the 15th. Your new home will not be ready until the 30th. Your lease ends on Friday, but the new apartment opens Monday. A renovation runs three weeks late.

These gaps force hard choices. Rent a storage unit and move twice yourself. Pay for a hotel and a truck that sits idle. Ask family to fill their garage with your sofa. None of these options feel good.

Our moving and storage service handles the whole gap with one company. We pack and load your home, inventory every item and store it. When your new place is ready, we deliver and set up. You make one call, not three.

We have helped Georgia families bridge the gap between homes since 2017. This guide covers the benefits, storage options, how pricing works and how to prepare items for storage.

Storage also helps outside of moves. Families use it during renovations, while staging a home for sale and while downsizing. We cover those uses too.

Our inventoried storage pairs pickup with storage and delivery, so one crew manages both ends.

Storage Options We Offer

Brief Storage Stays

Cover a short gap of days or weeks between addresses. This is our most common storage request, usually tied to a closing or lease date.

Long-Term Storage

Hold items for months during a renovation, a work assignment or a downsize. We plan the packing for a longer stay.

Partial Storage

Store only some items. Move the rest straight to your new home. This works well for downsizers and home stagers.

Storage With Long Distance Moves

Your new home in another city is not ready yet? Your things wait with us until that house opens. See our interstate moving company page.

Boxing Goods For Storage

Boxes in storage need to stack well for weeks. Our box and wrap service uses uniform cartons and clear labels.

Who Uses Moving And Storage

Home Sellers And Buyers

Closings rarely line up perfectly. Storage lets you sell on your timeline and buy on yours.

Home Stagers

Listing photos look better in a lighter home. Store extra furniture, toys and clutter while the house is on the market.

Renovators

Floors, paint and drywall work create dust. Move furniture out until the work is done.

Downsizers And Seniors

Not ready to part with some pieces? Store them while the family decides. Our patient senior movers page covers downsizing in detail.

Renters Between Leases

Your old lease ends before the new one starts? Storage holds your things for the gap.

Our Moving And Storage Process

  1. Free estimate. Share your home size, dates and what goes to storage.
  2. Pack and wrap. We prepare furniture and boxes for the wait.
  3. Load and inventory. We list every item as it goes onto the truck.
  4. Store. Your belongings stay protected until you call.
  5. Schedule delivery. Call or email with your new date.
  6. Deliver and set up. Stored goods come inside and land exactly where you point.

Delivery day mirrors pickup day. The crew checks each item against the inventory as it comes off the truck. You sign off only when the list matches, so nothing slips through the cracks between homes.

How To Prepare Items For Storage

Georgia is warm and humid for much of the year. Moisture is the biggest threat to stored items. These steps protect your things.

  • Clean and fully dry everything before it goes into storage.
  • Defrost and dry fridges and freezers. Leave doors slightly open in storage.
  • Skip airtight plastic on wood pieces, since humidity gets stuck inside.
  • Use breathable covers for upholstered pieces and mattresses.
  • Do not store food, plants, flammables or anything that can spoil.
  • Use small cartons for books and files to keep them light.
  • Label each box on two sides with the room and contents.

Plan your storage layout too. Items you may need first, like seasonal clothes or kids' gear, should be easy to reach. Heavy furniture goes to the back. Boxes stack in stable rows with labels facing out. A clear layout saves time at delivery and reduces damage risk.

Photograph valuable items before storage. Keep a copy of the inventory in your email or phone.

What Moving And Storage Costs

Moving and storage pricing has two parts: the moving labor and the storage itself.

  • Moving in: Packing, loading and transport to storage.
  • Storage space: Based on how much you store and for how long.
  • Moving out: Delivery and setup at your new home.
  • Packing: Optional, and priced in your estimate.

Storing less always costs less, so sort before you store.

We share every part of the price in writing before we start. Typical labor figures appear in our moving labor price guide.

07

Moving Storage Vs DIY Units

Renting your own storage unit looks cheaper at first. Then you add a rental truck, two moving days and a lot of lifting.

With A DIY Unit

  • You rent a truck twice, or pay movers twice.
  • You load and unload the unit yourself.
  • You manage access codes, hours and locks.
  • You handle stacking, covering and inventory.

With Our Moving Storage

  • One company handles every step.
  • Your items get wrapped, inventoried and stored by the crew that moved them.
  • You call once to schedule delivery.

Want help packing a storage unit you rent yourself? Our rental truck loading crew can stack it for you. The Self Storage Association also shares general storage tips.

How To Store Common Items

Mattresses

Use a breathable mattress bag. Store mattresses flat or on edge, never folded or bent. Do not stack heavy items on top.

Wood Furniture

Clean and dry each piece. Cover it with moving pads or cotton sheets, not tight plastic. Remove legs from large tables to save space and reduce stress on joints.

Upholstered Furniture

Vacuum sofas and chairs first. Cover them with breathable fabric. Keep them off the floor on pallets or pads if you can.

Electronics

Pack TVs and computers in their original boxes, or in snug padded cartons. Remove batteries from remotes and devices to prevent leaks.

Appliances

Clean, drain and dry washers, fridges and dishwashers. Leave doors cracked open in storage to stop odors.

Clothes And Linens

Wash everything before storage. Use wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes. Add cedar blocks instead of mothballs.

Papers And Photos

Store files in sealed plastic bins. Keep passports, deeds and tax records with you, not in storage.

Rugs need care too. Roll them, never fold them, and wrap the roll in breathable fabric before it goes in.

09

Storage Mistakes We See Often

Storing Things You Do Not Need

Storage costs money every month. Sell or give away anything you will not need again before it enters storage.

Using Weak Boxes

Grocery boxes sag and collapse under weight over time. Use sturdy moving cartons of matching sizes.

Packing Wet Items

A damp rug or a wet cooler can cause mildew across a whole load. Dry everything fully first.

Losing Track Of What Is Stored

Months later, nobody remembers which box holds the winter coats. Keep our inventory and your own photos handy.

Guessing The Delivery Date

Plan a rough delivery date when you store. Then update us as your closing or renovation firms up.

Three Example Storage Plans

These examples show how a typical storage plan works. Your dates and details will be your own.

The Closing Gap

Say a family in Suwanee sells their home and must leave by the 15th. Their new home in Buford closes on the 28th. We pack and load on the 14th and store their goods. On the 28th, we deliver and set up. The family stays with relatives for two weeks with only suitcases to manage.

The Kitchen Remodel

Picture a Marietta couple who remodel their kitchen and dining room. We move the dining set, china cabinet and boxed dishes into storage. When the work ends six weeks later, we bring everything back and place it in the new rooms.

The Out-Of-State Wait

Or a family leaves Alpharetta for a new job in another state. Their new home will not be ready for a month. We load their home and hold it in storage. When the keys arrive, we deliver directly to the new address.

Every plan is different. Tell us your dates, and we build a schedule around them. If your dates shift, call us early so we can adjust delivery.

11

Questions To Ask Before You Store

  • How long do I expect to store, and could that change?
  • Do I need any item from storage before final delivery?
  • Which items are fragile or valuable and need extra care?
  • Does my homeowners or renters insurance cover stored goods?
  • Where will the items go at the new home?

Share your answers with us when you request an estimate. Clear answers help us pack, store and deliver your things the right way.

Reserve Before The Gap

Storage space and moving crews both tighten in peak season. Securing both early protects your plan.

  • Summer brings the most closings and lease swaps.
  • Move-in and move-out dates cluster at month-end.
  • Delivery days book up when many closings align.

A storage plan needs two crew dates: one to pick up and one to deliver. Booking early lets us hold both.

Reserve as soon as you spot a gap. The $75 hold credits $70 toward your invoice.
